How something earns a place here.

A recommendation you cannot check is worth very little. So here is how we choose, in the open: what we research, whose experience we rely on, and what makes us stop recommending something.

The rules

Four promises we keep, even when they cost us.

We research before we recommend

Materials, construction, the maker's own claims and the evidence behind them. Where a health or safety claim is involved, we link the source.

We listen to real customers

We read what owners report after weeks and months of use, not just first impressions, and we look for patterns rather than single reviews.

Commission never decides what we recommend

Brands cannot pay to be included. Where a cheaper option is the better choice, we say so, including when it earns us less.

Things leave the haven too

The list is maintained, not accumulated. When customers report a brand slipping, it is removed rather than quietly left up.

What we look at

The checks are unglamorous, which is rather the point.

Clothing

Fiber content, how the piece is cut and finished, and what owners say about fit, sizing and how it holds up after washing.

Nails and cosmetics

Ingredients, safety guidance from dermatology bodies, and what customers report about wear time, removal and color accuracy.

Jewelry

Metal and karat as labeled under the FTC Jewelry Guides, plating thickness, and what owners report about tarnish and wear over time.

What this page is not

SOUL is a small independent edit, not a testing lab. We do not run lab tests, and we do not claim to have tried every product we mention. What we do is research carefully, cite our sources and say plainly where a view comes from.

Straight answers

The questions we would want asked of us.

How does SOUL choose what to recommend?

We research each product: what it is made of, how it is built, what the maker claims, and what real customers report after weeks of use. Health and safety claims are checked against primary sources such as the American Academy of Dermatology, the FDA and GIA.

Do brands pay to be featured?

No. Brands cannot buy a place here, cannot see a page before it publishes, and cannot request changes after.

How does SOUL make money?

Affiliate commission. If you buy through a link here, the brand may pay us a percentage, and you pay the same price. Partner brands are labeled as partners on the page.

Do Camille and Noor try the products?

No. Camille and Noor are SOUL's hosts and present our notes. They never claim to have worn, tried or tested anything.

What makes you stop recommending something?

A drop in quality that customers report, a change in sizing or formula, or a support record that would embarrass us to have recommended. Quietly getting worse is enough.
