Perfume quiz: find your scent
Ten quick questions about the smells you already love. You get your fragrance family, a three-bottle wardrobe and a plan to test before you spend a cent. No brands and no sales pitch.
The perfume quiz
Answer with your nose, not with what you think you should like. If nothing fits, pick the closest.
Why this one recommends no brands
Most perfume quizzes end in a bottle from the shop that wrote the quiz. Ours ends in a family, the notes to look for and a testing plan, because no quiz can smell your skin, and the best perfume for you is one you have worn for a whole day.
That keeps the result useful anywhere: in a department store, from a sample set or from a bottle already on your shelf. Everything is worked out in your browser, and we never see your answers.
All eight fragrance families
Each family has a plain-language guide: what it smells like, the notes to look for, when to wear it and how to test it.
How to test a perfume like an expert
One testing trip, done well, saves a drawer of wrong bottles.
- 1
Go with clean, unscented skin
No perfume or scented lotion that day.
- 2
Paper first, to rule out
Spray paper strips and keep only the ones you would happily smell again.
- 3
Skin for the finalists
Two at most, one on each wrist or inner elbow. Do not rub.
- 4
Leave, then smell again
At 30 minutes, two hours and six hours. Write it down.
- 5
Ask for a sample
Wear your favorite for a whole day before you buy a bottle.
Fragrance guidance only. If a scent irritates your skin, stop using it. Some workplaces, schools and hospitals are fragrance-free, so check before you wear one.
Choose with your nose, then keep the method.
The Signature Scent Edit
This quiz gives you your family. The Edition turns it into a method: how fragrance works, the eight families in depth, a testing log for twelve scents, a three-bottle wardrobe plan, application and layering, and eight cut-out family cards. It recommends no brands, so what you find is yours.
Add the At-Home Gel Edit and save: The Glow Duo is $28 instead of $35.

Perfume quiz FAQ
How does the perfume quiz work?
You answer ten short questions about the smells you already love, the weather, how noticeable you want your perfume to be and your skin. The quiz scores eight fragrance families and gives you your best family, a close second, a three-bottle wardrobe and a testing plan.
Does the quiz recommend perfume brands or products?
No. A quiz cannot smell your skin, and a recommendation tied to one shop's stock tends to end in that shop's products. This one tells you which fragrance family and which notes to look for, so you can test any perfume, anywhere, with a plan.
What are the fragrance families?
Fragrance families group perfumes by how they smell. The quiz uses eight easy groups, simplified from the Fragrance Wheel by Michael Edwards: fresh citrus, green and aromatic, aquatic and clean, floral, soft and powdery, amber and spice, gourmand and woody.
How accurate is a perfume quiz?
It is a good starting point, not a verdict. Skin chemistry, temperature and your own nose change how a fragrance smells on you. Use the result to narrow the field, then test two or three scents on skin for several hours before you buy.
Is this quiz for women or men?
Fragrance families are not tied to a gender. The quiz asks about smells, weather and wear, and the result works for anyone.
What should I do with my result?
Read your family guide, note the notes it lists, and use them when you search or ask for samples. Then follow the testing plan: paper first, skin for finalists, and smell again at 30 minutes, two hours and six hours.
Is the quiz free, and do you keep my answers?
It is free. The answers are worked out in your browser. If you tap save, your family is kept on this device in My SOUL; nothing is sent to us.
